You are sick of sitting in your room studying, the quad is filled with people playing Frisbee making it impossible to study outside, and both Kearney computer lab and the library are filled to capacity with other students. Where should you go for some peace and quiet without leaving campus?
In order to help lower your stress levels at this hectic time, I have traveled far and wide (well really just across campus) to find the top five under utilized study areas on campus.
5. Wegmans School of Nursing sitting areas
The Wegmans School of Nursing sitting areas are located on the second and third floors of the building. This space is located to the left of the elevator on both floors. Basically it is a sitting area large enough for two or three and has what I consider to be one of the best views of LeChase Court on campus.
This is the perfect spot for some quiet reading or studying indoors, but you can still enjoy the sunshine. It's tucked out of the way so you won't be disturbed by people passing by. To me, this is one of the finest places to study on campus.
4. The old Duck Pond
Before there was a Golisano Gateway building, Fisher had a duck pond. Now it is filled in and there is a small grass area that is situated between Pioch and the Golisano Gateway building.
This area is completely empty when the Campus Center quad is filled to capacity with people sunbathing and playing Frisbee.
In this area there is a bench to sit on and study, but there is also plenty of space to lay out a blanket and study for a final. This area is also close enough to the academic buildings that you can pick up a wireless signal on your laptop even though you are outside.
Although green space is increasingly difficult to find on campus, this is one under utilized lawn on campus.
3. Skalny Biology resource lab
The Skalny Biology resource lab is located on the second floor of Skalny Science Center in room A211. This is a computer lab that can be used by any Fisher student who is either a Biology major or is currently enrolled in a Biology course.
Although the room is on the small side with only about eight computers, it is quiet and the perfect place to get work done between classes. This lab not only has a printer, but also a scanner, which can be difficult to find on campus.
Also, if you have a group of students who are studying for a Biology final, the room has a big table that everyone can meet at to do work together.
2. Wegmans School of Nursing student lounge
Located in the new Nursing building in room 303 is a student lounge. The lounge has two huge tables where you can sit comfortably and get some work done.
This room even has a refrigerator, so you can keep some yogurt or water cold until you are ready to snack. If you forgot to plan ahead there are also vending machines in the room, so you won't have to go far for a snack in the middle of your studies.
The nicest thing about this room is that there is no other place on campus like it. This is the only lounge specifically for student use only. I would highly recommend taking advantage of it.
1. Wegmans School of Nursing computer labs
In the Wegmans School of Nursing building, there is not one, but two computer labs for student use. There is one lab located on each of the second and third floors. Each lab is about the size of one of the Kearney computer labs.
Each lab has a large printer, and were completely empty when I visited them. These two labs are by far the greatest finds on campus.
On days when Lavery Library and Kearney labs are full, this is a place on campus to go to get some serious work done, as long as there isn't a scheduled class going on in the lab.
