However, the process itself did not include a large number of students, and the opinions of a student leaders were not taken into consideration.
Freshman Kelsey Krueger said, "I'm a Food Committee representative, and the past couple months they've been asking us to talk to the students and get the students' views and find out the things they like and don't like … but I wasn't even asked to be on the committee for this.
"I would have thought that being on the Food Services Committee I would have been approached about it, but I never was."
According to SGA vice president John Snyder, "We had three SGA officers at [the final] luncheon. Honestly, that was one of the only ways we were involved in the whole process."
Liebow was told the final decision was going to be made by March 20, but according to Tom O'Neil, it could have been any time between late March and early April, so it was not delayed.
The contract with Lackmann is for five years and is worth $4 million, according to O'Neil.
Five companies originally submitted bids for the dining services: Bon Appétit, Airmark, Parkhurst, AVI and Lackmann. It was then narrowed down to three companies, Bon Appétit, Lackmann, based in Woodbury, N.Y., and AVI, who were asked to come back to present their ideas for the Bid Review Committee, according to Walter Casper, a member of the Bid Review Committee.
"When AVI was ruled out, Lackmann officials returned to campus to look at facilities, meet College officials and get information regarding the Buffalo Bills training camp because that is a huge part of the contract," Casper said. "They also presented changes they would like to see made at Fisher to the committee."
Some of these changes include opening more service stations, increasing healthier options, Aguahealth flavored-water dispensers, sushi and longer hours of operation. There are also plans to totally revitalize the Cardinal Café and increase use of the FishBowl.
