Holidays too commercial

When I sat down to write this editorial, I had originally planned on writing about school spirit. In light of recent Black Friday events, I decided to change directions, and write about another kind of spirit: the holiday spirit.?
The holidays are meant to be a happy time, enjoyed with family and friends. Traditionally, the season is supposed to bring about feelings of love, generosity and compassion. Lately though, it seems that these ideas have been pushed aside, and replaced with hate, greed, and anger.
This past Friday, shoppers lined up outside of retail stores hours before the doors even opened to try and get low prices on popular gifts. However, with the bargains come the bullies.
As a veteran Black Friday shopper, I know that this shopping day has to be handled with a positive attitude, and lot of patience. Everyone knows that there are some aggressive shoppers on a mission out there. Stories of early morning fights over the latest toys or electronics aren't uncommon on this notorious shopping day. ??
This year, it seems that those aggressive shoppers went a bit too far in their quest for deals.?? At a Wal-Mart on Long Island, impatient bargain hunters pushed down the doors and trampled a seasonal worker to death.
Considering the economy, it's understandable that consumers want to find good deals and save money. What I can't seem to comprehend is the idea that these shoppers could be so greedy and ruthless in order to be generous. Is saving a few bucks on a TV really worth more than a life???
As the song goes, it's the most wonderful time of the year-or it's meant to be, so don't be a scrooge to stretch a dollar.
